Next Post: Work Literacy and what I plan to do about it

A few of my favorite things

Like most people who develop and manage training for a living, especially at small to medium sized companies and non profits, I have learned to do a lot of work using free and open source software tools. I will explain how I use these tools in a series of posts but for now I just want to list some of them in case you want to check them out for yourself.

UDUTU - coolest online course development tool I’ve seen

Moodle - everyone has seen it but the potential for this learning platform is unlimited

Facebook - could be the next thing in learning management and PLE (personal learning environment)

Sprout - distribute your content in Flash widgets and share them virally

Audacity - open source audio creation and mp3 coding

Amazon Cloud - create a server and manage applications virtually

Bitnami- download custom server stacks to manage your open source application

LearnHub - a social network and course deployment site

Circle Up - communicate messages to your organization without email confusion

Google Apps - application sharing for your personal or organizational use

Picnik-online image editing

Pandora - listen to custom tunes while developing stuff

Tiddly Spot - personal productivity wiki

EXE-open source self paced modules

Elluminate - online collaboration

Jing - online screen capture
